Sign of the Times
We begin a new Minor Prophet this week - JOEL! We will be in Joel 1 this Sunday - "Sign of the Times". The prophet focuses on a locust invasion that devastated Judah (not sure when). He calls the people to pay attention to this disaster and how it points to a greater coming judgment/destruction: the Day of the Lord. When disasters come, we may be desensitized or think primarily of how we are personally affected. Joel calls various groups of people to pay attention and to mourn, but he also calls ALL the people to a spiritual mourning and repentance at such a disaster - these are signs from the Lord calling us to turn to Him...
