LORD, LORD..
Many in Israel desired the "Day of the LORD" thinking that it would bring vindication for Israel and judgment for their enemies. They presumed they were righteous but the Lord says they are in for a big surprise. Their posture is similar to those in Matthew 7:21-23 who say "LORD, LORD..." and Jesus responds "I never knew you..." Amos describes what the "day of the Lord" will be like for them and reiterates how He hates their religion and desires justice and righteousness in the land. May we not be lulled and falsely secure by our religion while neglecting justice and righteousness.
